Sara Rayner Ceramic Bonsai Pot
This pot was hand thrown and altered on a potter's wheel, which makes it a one-of-a-kind bonsai pot. It is made of high quality stoneware clays and was high fired at 2400 degrees F.
This pot is completely vitreous (non porous), frost proof, and extremely durable. The stoneware clay has a lot of tooth, and a warm hand rubbed appearance. Many of the stoneware glazes are mixed with 50% hardwood ash, which gives the pottery a very mottled and textured surface.
When clay is fired in a reduced atmosphere (oxygen starved), it produces a warm clay body and soft flowing glazes. This in itself sets Sara Rayner pots apart from most bonsai pot production, and gives the pottery its unique look.
Note: We do not clean Vintage Bonsai Pots. You can clean it or use as it. Potter name is believed to be accurate, based on what was provided to us and/or preliminary stamp research.

Part Of The Tim Shoup Collection:
Tim Shoup, a collector of everything bonsai (trees, pots and art), sold off his celebrated collection to New England Bonsai Garden (NEBG).
This is the beginning of a new chapter for Tim and an opportunity for NEBG to add hundreds of new items. A couple trees were accepted to the 2023 Nationals, In Rochester NY.
The item listed above was part of Tim’s collection. We are trying to provide you with as much information as possible (e.g. age, artist, flaws, etc). If you have any questions, please contact us. I try to describe the items to the best of my knowledge.
