This is a One Of A Kind Flowering Viburnum

Sometimes you buy trees and you can't remember where it came from. I suspect this was an acquision that Jun Imabayashi made several years ago - from a West Coast trip. Based on the SKU, it would seem that this tree was hiding at the nursery for a while. The bonsai guys hide a lot of trees from the sales & marketing folks. They'll place a sold tag with a fictitious customer name on it. We fall for it every time!

Viburnum is a genus of flowering shrubs and trees that are native to many parts of the world. When grown as a bonsai, the Viburnum can make a beautiful addition to any collection, with its attractive leaves, flowers, and berries.

The leaves of the Viburnum bonsai are typically oval-shaped and have a dark green color. Some species of Viburnum have leaves that turn a vibrant red or purple color in the fall. The tree produces clusters of small, white or pink flowers in the spring or summer, which are followed by attractive berries in the fall.

The trunk of the Viburnum bonsai can vary in size and shape depending on the species, with some having a thick and sturdy trunk, while others are more slender and delicate. The trunk on this tree is gnarly, fat, and unique.

To care for a Viburnum bonsai, it is important to provide it with well-draining soil and plenty of sunlight. The tree should be watered regularly but not excessively, and fertilized during the growing season. Pruning and wiring can also be used to shape the tree and encourage growth in certain areas.

Overall, the Viburnum bonsai is a beautiful and versatile tree that can make a stunning addition to any bonsai collection. Its attractive leaves, flowers, and berries make it a popular choice for bonsai enthusiasts of all levels.
