Persimmon - Wild Mountain Variety

It doesn't get much better than this tree. It was originally imported from Japan. The trunk movement, taper, and branching is incredible. There's not a lot of these trees available for sale and we're thankful that this tree founds it's way to NEBG.

The Wild Mountain Persimmon, scientifically known as Diospyros virginiana, is admired for its attractive foliage, beautiful fruit, and sturdy nature, making it a standout addition to any bonsai collection.

Key Features:

  1. Attractive Foliage: The Wild Mountain Persimmon Bonsai features broad, ovate leaves that are a vibrant green during the growing season. In autumn, the leaves transform into stunning shades of yellow, orange, and red, creating a spectacular fall display.

  2. Beautiful Fruit: One of the most appealing aspects of the Wild Mountain Persimmon Bonsai is its small, round fruits that mature to a rich orange color. These persimmons not only add visual interest and a pop of color to the tree but also enhance its overall aesthetic appeal.

  3. Sturdy and Resilient: Known for its hardiness, the Wild Mountain Persimmon Bonsai is well-suited to various environmental conditions. Its robust nature makes it a great choice for bonsai enthusiasts looking for a durable and long-lasting specimen.

  4. Textured Bark: As the Wild Mountain Persimmon Bonsai matures, its bark develops a rugged, textured appearance that adds character and a sense of age to the tree. This feature enhances the bonsai's overall aesthetic and provides visual interest year-round.

  5. Seasonal Interest: Throughout the year, the Wild Mountain Persimmon Bonsai offers dynamic and captivating changes. From the vibrant green leaves of spring and summer to the colorful foliage and bright fruits of autumn, this bonsai remains a focal point in any collection.

  6. Ease of Care: The Wild Mountain Persimmon Bonsai is relatively easy to care for, making it suitable for both novice and experienced bonsai enthusiasts. It thrives in well-draining soil and prefers full sun to partial shade. Regular watering, pruning, and occasional fertilization are essential to maintain its health and shape.

Symbolic Meaning: Persimmons are often associated with good fortune, longevity, and wisdom. The Wild Mountain Persimmon Bonsai embodies these qualities, bringing a sense of resilience, prosperity, and natural beauty to any space.

Overall, the Wild Mountain Persimmon Bonsai is a remarkable specimen that combines attractive foliage, beautiful fruit, and ease of care. It stands as a testament to the artistry and dedication involved in bonsai cultivation, offering both aesthetic pleasure and a profound connection to the rugged beauty of the natural world.

When ready to eat, a persimmon is very soft--too soft for the market. But in backyards, where fruits need to travel no further than arm's length, they are perfect. When ripe, persimmon flesh tastes something like a wet, dried apricot dipped in honey with a dash of spice.

A trouble-free fruit to grow and beautiful in the garden as the red-orange fruits hang on the tree after the leaves fall. The fruit can be made into pulp and frozen, or sliced and dried.
