Imported Persimmon - Taiyo

This is an incredible tree. It was originally imported from Japan. The trunk movement and taper is great. There's lots of branching to work with. There's not a lot of these trees available for sale and we're thankful that this tree founds it's way to NEBG.

The Princess Persimmon, scientifically known as Diospyros rhombifolia, is a charming and unique bonsai that captivates with its elegant form, attractive foliage, and delightful fruit. This bonsai tree, brings a touch of refined beauty and exotic allure to any bonsai collection.

Key Features:

  1. Distinctive Foliage: The Princess Persimmon Bonsai features glossy leaves that are both striking and unique. The leaves are a vibrant green throughout the growing season, providing a lush and verdant appearance.

  2. Delightful Fruits: One of the most appealing aspects of the Princess Persimmon Bonsai is its small, orange-red fruits that resemble miniature persimmons. These fruits not only add visual interest and color to the tree but also enhance its overall charm and appeal.

  3. Elegant Structure: This bonsai has a graceful and refined structure, with slender branches that create a balanced and aesthetically pleasing form. Its perfect size makes it perfect.

  4. Textured Bark: As the Princess Persimmon Bonsai matures, it develops textured bark that adds character and a sense of age to the tree. This feature enhances the bonsai's overall aesthetic and provides visual interest year-round.

  5. Seasonal Interest: The Princess Persimmon Bonsai offers year-round beauty with its changing foliage and fruit. In autumn, the leaves may turn shades of yellow and orange, complementing the vibrant fruits and creating a stunning display.

Overall, the Princess Persimmon (Diospyros rhombifolia) Bonsai is a remarkable specimen that combines distinctive foliage, delightful fruits, and ease of care. It stands as a testament to the artistry and dedication involved in bonsai cultivation, offering both aesthetic pleasure and a profound connection to the beauty of the natural world.

When ready to eat, a persimmon is very soft--too soft for the market. But in backyards, where fruits need to travel no further than arm's length, they are perfect. When ripe, persimmon flesh tastes something like a wet, dried apricot dipped in honey with a dash of spice.

A trouble-free fruit to grow and beautiful in the garden as the red-orange fruits hang on the tree after the leaves fall. The fruit can be made into pulp and frozen, or sliced and dried.
